Murum Dam and My Murum Bridge Work

The Borneo Post during December 2014 reported that the Dam Reservoir water level had reached 505.85m as of yesterday and could reach 545m in the near future to achieve maximum capacity of providing 945MW power.

Murum Dam is located in the interior Sarawak, 200km from Bintulu at the upper stream of Rejang River, the longest river of Sarawak.

Twenty-five years ago, I was involved in the design of a 96m span bridge across Murum River for a timber Company using the 72m length British Thomas Storey pre-fabricated Truss Bridge as the main span, the longest available span at that time. It was constructed within six months, the main bulk of the work was constructing the 15m high piers & concrete foundation. The river water depth was unpredictable, shallow during dry day but could rise 10m over the night when rained.

Pity and sad to hear the place is now under the water.

All this green is now just a memory.
